The Sixth Generation -
The Erwin Family
The Erwin family on the Morlan family tree started when two brothers migrated from Baltimore County, Maryland, to Bedford County, Virginia, about 1790 where the Morlans were living. Like the Morlans, the Erwins were Quakers.
The Erwin Brothers (information about their parents is unknown):
James ErwinHis wife's name was Mary. The family was granted membership in the Quakers in 1790. James was written up for misconduct and did not make amends until 1797. That write-up did not indicate what the problem was. The family moved to Columbiana County, Ohio, with the Morlans. James and Mary Erwin were the parents of four children:- Jane (Erwin) Lewis
- Magdalen Erwin
- Susan H. Erwin
- James Erwin
Samuel Erwin - (direct ancestor) Born about 1764, Samuel married Sarah Holmes on April 7, 1793, in Bedford County, Virginia. They were the parents of ten children.

In Bedford he married Sarah Holmes on April 7, 1793. Sarah was born in December of 1771, the daughter of William and Mary (Cooe) Holmes.
Samuel Erwin and his family moved to Columbiana County, Ohio, before the Morlans in the early 1800's. They became residents of the southwest quarter of section 20 about 1803. In 1810, Samuel owned 163 acres for which he paid $1.63 in taxes for second-class land.
He was listed as being one of three Trustees for the Township of Fairfield in Columbiana County in 1821 and 1822. Samuel was disowned from the Society of Friends December 6, 1828, for joining the Separatists.
Samuel and Sarah (Holmes) Erwin were the parents of ten children. The first five were born in Bedford County, Virginia, and the last five in Columbiana County, Ohio. Sarah died September 10, 1864, almost 93 years old. She was buried in Columbiana County, Ohio
