Gary Lynn Gillett was born May 9, 1945, at the Maynard Hospital in Seattle, Washington, the third
son of Adrien and Helen (Winkler) Gillett.
Gary attended grade schools in Yakima, Washington, and Sacramento, California. He graduated from the
Luther Burbank High School in Sacramento.
He began working for the Post Office in 1964.
Gary enlisted in the Army and served from September 1965 until April of 1969. His tours of duty
included Germany and Vietnam.
After his Army service, he returned to work at the Post Office in Rio Linda, California.
Gary married Ada Rae (Rains) Settles on December 13, 1982, in Rio Linda, California.
Ada was born on June 6, 1947. She was previously married to James M. Settles in 1967 and
divorced in 1977, and had two children from that preious marriage:
Robert Mitchell Settles (born April 1968) and
Julie Ann Settles (born Septerment 1970).
Ada worked for
Pacific Telephone, starting in 1965.
Gary's father, Adrien, lived near him in Rio Linda, California, at the time Adrien died in 2008 at age 95.
