Unusal Death (1)
John Andrew Shedden, |
John Andrew Shedden was born April 24, 1873, the son of John Boyd Shedden. John Boyd Shedden was a brother of James Elmer Shedden. John had married Olive May Stoner on July 23, 1903. Olive was born May 7, 1873 in Elgin, Illinois, the daughter of William and Jane (Dalziel) Stoner. John was Chief Clerk for the Pacific Exchange Company of Chicago when he died suddenly on April 2, 1909 at the age of 35 in Elgin, Illinois. The Dundee Hawkeye of April 3, 1909, gave the following front page account: Well Known Elgin Man Electrocuted Last NightJohn A. Shedden of Elgin, well known here and a relative of the Dundee Sheddens, was instantly killed at his home on Center Street in the Watch City, Friday evening after being electrocuted. His telephone was ringing almost constantly and believing the wires had become tangled, he took a pair of pliars and went outside intending to cut the wires and stop the trouble. It seems that the telephone wire was heavily charged by contact with an electric wire and death was instantaneous. |
